The three biggest mistakes i see
Ok really, the list could be endless about the mistakes i see:
no ecover
bad description
bad title
no promotion
etc etc etc
But the top three in my opinion are
No FREE ebooks
Wrong eBay ID Name
Your email
Ok number 1.
No FREE ebooks
Why would you sign up at someones website, for something free, for a newsletter, if you are gaining something for nothing!
No one will regsiter at your website unless you give them a reason to, give the a free ebook, free marketing course, free anything and they WILL sign up. No free ebook? ok give them a special tip, or give them a coupon, let them buy one get one free, but you must give them something in return.
Number 2.
Selling on eBay I can stress this enough, you need a relevant ebay id, (read my other post on ebay ids) it shows you are specialised in a particluar field, your the expert, your not someone who just registered on ebay to make a fast buck!
Number 3.
Your email is the one thing that 1000s of people will read, make it count, make sure you put your website name, ebay shop, ebay id, anything that links to something you have an interest in AND always put a PS. you know, like at the end of a letter, ps. i love you etc etc, but you wont put i love you obviouslt, you will put a link to that very special offer you have or to the freebie your offering, if you send an email it can be forwarded, and your link at the bottom will be read so make it a point to always include your details at the bottom of ANY email.
Now this is only my opinion, and i have been successfully selling ebooks for some time now, so you can ignore my advice or take it, entirely your choice,.
Do I have a PS?
Is my website listed?
OFCOURSE IT IS!

Never judge a book by its cover
Unless its an ebook!
Any good ebook needs a good ebook cover.
They say it can double its selling price.
Well I'm putting it to the challenge.
I have a foreign language bundle that almost alwatys sells for £1.20 on eBay, with a rubbish picture of a flag as the item picture.
I have now designed an ecover, using ecover pro, which you can buy at my website here:
eCover Pro
Will my beautiful new ecover add value to the ebook, or is all just nonsense????
Keep watching this space.

Sky rocket your sales
1. Use a "P.S." at the end of your ad copy. This is were you either want to repeat a strong benefit or use a strong close like a free bonus.
2. Publish a free ebook and give it away from your web site or in your e-zine. This will increase your traffic, sales and e-zine subscribers.
3. Create multiple streams of income with your web site. You could sell your own products, join affiliate programs, sell advertising space, etc.
4. Give your visitors compliments in your ad copy. This can earn their trust and put them in a good mood, in return they will be easier to sell too.
5. Create new products or services only if there is a strong need for them. You won't have anyone to sell them to if you don't have a market.
6. Sell your backend products to your customers right after they order. Take them to a "Thank You" web page that includes other products you sell.
7. Sell a few products on your web site instead of selling a large amount of products. To many choices can overwhelm your visitors and they won't buy.
8. Include content and free stuff on your web site that promote the products you're selling. If they don't read your ads, they may read your offerings.
9. Remind your visitors that you're human not just a web site. You could publish information on your family life, a picture of yourself , a profile, etc.
10. Provide a "Contact Page" on your web site. Give your visitors as many options to contact you as possible. This'll add credibility to your business.

Dont just sell the old ebooks get fresh ones
I remember the first ever ebook i bought, it was Fruit Machines Cheats.
I even bought a master key that was supposed to give you secret information when you used it on a fruit machine, thing is I was terrified of getting caught so in the end it got tossed in the bin!
Clever guy for writing the fruit machine ebook and then selling the key too, thats the kind of ideas you are looking for.
Dont just keep re-selling the old titles, ofcourse keep them if they are consistently selling for you but ideally you want fresh new ebooks that no one else has.
When I have the time I will be revamping my website and adding fresh new ebooks, I added two tonight, you can see it here:
tongue complaints and diseases
UK Wholesaler Trade and Guide Bible
My ebook website came pre-packed with 50 ebooks, fully automated so once I upload the ebooks I just sit back and relax, if you want one like mine here is the link:
ready to go ebook website
Its great if your just starting out and want to start right away.
Back to the fresh content, I want to be my website to be different, how many times do you come across a website selling the same ebooks as you, try to be different, create your own ebooks, buy titles that arent selling on eBay for 1p!
Can any of you remember the first ebook you bought, if so leave a post stating its title, it will be good to see where we all got biten by the ebook bug!

Inserting your own background on pages
Does any page not look so much more professional when it has a background image applied?
Take a look at these pages to see what I mean:
Cody Moya Niche Page
Nexus Gate Page
Resell Products Page
In order to have an image tile across the background of your page you need to insert the follow html code in the "body" section.
You need to change the url to your own website name
You need to change /images to your own image folder name
and you need to change the filename to the name of your uploaded image.
You will have to design an image that will be tiled, personally I use Adobe Photoshop.
Make your image roughly the size of 150 x 150 and this should make a nice tile across your background.
For an excellent deal on editable headers, background images, and software on how to edit the images etc, take a look at this:
Impressive Headers Graphics Package
And for 10 free header images just go here:

The importance of the ebook title description
How many times do you see the same ebook on eBay?
Probably 1000s of times, it always seems to the same people who are selling and selling while others are practially just donating money to ebay in listing fees.
Are you constantly re-listing ebooks that are not selling? Well if they are not selling there are two reasons, either they are badly described (usually its this reason) or the subject / content is just not in demand.
If other people are selling the same ebook successfully then you know that you need to change your description or listing title.
Now I want you to use the advanced search function (see my other post about advanced search functions on eBay).
Put in a few words, remember only 1 or 2 words you want as broad a search as possible, describing the ebook you intend to sell, make sure you tick completed listings only, this shows items that have ended, there is no point looking at live auctions as you do not know the outcome of the sale yet.
When eBay returns the list relevant to your words, look for the items in green, these are the ones that have sold, the red ones have not sold. Now look at each one that sold, preferably the ones that sold for the highest prices, and look at their item titles.
You will see the same words over and over, these are the magic words!
Write a list of the magic common words used in the item titles, these words are the ones your going to use in your own title, dont write down words like THE, OF, A, IN, FOR etc these words are not useful in an item title, most people wont include these when they search on ebay for an item, ie. A dress, The Ebook.
You want your title to include as many search words as possible ie. the words people would input to find an item like yours.
Imagine you are not you, youre an ebayer looking to buy your item, think of the words they would put in.
Remember you only have so many characters to put in your item title so make it good, in fact make it GREAT, dont keep churning out the same old titles everyone uses for the ebooks, make your title stand out from the crowd but make sure you include the words you got from the advanced search option.
One last thing its not good to use symbols ie. & **** ~~~~, some people think its pretty, or attracts the eye, but they are using up valuable title word space and people certainly wont input **** or ~~~~~ when searching for an item so it may be pretty but probably know one will see their item anyway.
A good title, with relevant words can mean your item does not get displayed in beside the other 100s of same titled ebook, get the title right and your ebook will be the only search item returned and therefore the only one looked at!
I will do a separate post for sprucing up your item descriptions soon!

It dont mean a thing if you aint got this Ping !
When you have a blog it has to be viewed, without being viewed the blog then become pointless.
Getting people to view your blog is easy to some extent, you can tell your subscribers and mailings lists, tell anyone and everyone, then word of mouth should help get more readers.
But eventually you run out of people to tell, so getting a good search engine ranking for your relevant blog subject then becomes important.
Thats when you just have to ping !
So whats pinging, well I use Ping-O-Matic
Ping-O-Matic is a service to update different search engines that your blog has updated.
They regularly check downstream services to make sure that they're legit and still work. So while it may appear like we have fewer services, they're the most important ones.
Basically just by enter a few details about your blog they then "ping" them a sort of message to say your blog is being updated regularly ie. it contents nice new fresh content which makes your blog important.
Ping-O-Matic will ping upto 22 services for you in under 10 seconds, thats a whole lot faster than it would take you to automatically do this and best of all ITS COMPLETELY FREE !
They also give you a stats page where you can view the stats for your blogging and pinging.
And there is a great blog with lots of tips and help, what more could a blogger ask for.
You can visit each day and ping all the services again and again and again.
So remember when your blogging get pinging!
Here is the Ping-O-Matic site address:

My Google Adwords Adventure Day 2
Day 2....... 15.07.06
Trip to the bank today, my Google Bank Transfer information in hand, I had to do a minimum of £10.00 to transfer, this was the lowest amount I could choose from the drop down menu when I signed up to Google Adwords yesterday.
So my hard earned cash is winging its way to Google as we speak, god help us all !
Like I said the transaction can take up to 7 - 10 days, so watch this space.
What odds do you think I would get on me failing? Maybe I should place a bet just to cover any losses I incur haha!
forever optimistic,

Automate your ebook delivery with Outlook
One of the easiest ways to set up automatic delivery of your ebooks is using outlook express.
Most pcs have this installed on them and many people use outlook for their own personal email.
There is simply way of setting up a mail rule that will essentially deliver an automated email containing a download link to your ebook.
Simply type up a letter, use notepad or word.
Your letter will be along the lines of something like this:
**********************************************************************************
Dear Buyer
Thank you so much for choosing to buy from me. I know you have a lot of choices, I am especially thankful for this and appreciate your business.
First of all, if you are not completely satisfied with your purchase from me please let me know before leaving feedback.
As long as you are happy with your purchase please leave me positive feedback and I will do the same for you within 24 hours.
You will find below the link you need to download your purchase.
If you have any problems or questions let me know.
Here is the link,
http://www.sallys-ebooks.co.uk/download/7free.zip
Thanks again for your purchase
And feel free to browse my other ebay listings / shop for more bargain ebooks
most start at 1p !!!
You can visit my ebay shop here: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Sallys-Secrets
Or visit my website at: http://www.sallys-ebooks.co.uk
Sally Neill
http://www.sallys-ebooks.co.uk
On some systems the link won't load. If this happens to you simply copy the text and paste it into the address bar in your browser. All files are zip files i.e. compressed into a folder . You will need WinZip to extract them. You should already have this installed on your PC but if you don’t visit http://www.winzip.com and download this to open your file.
Also you may need a copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader to view your purchase, get this at http://www.adobe.com
************************************************************************************
Ok so thats some of the things you should put in the letter, did you see what I did? I managed to mention my other ebay listings, my ebay shop and my ebook website, many people who receive that email will click on the links so its good advertising. Again at the end always put your website name under your signature.
Now you have to save a copy of your letter, and remember which folder you say it to, its a good idea to create a new folder in your my documents folder on your pc, simply go into my documents, right click and select new folder, give it the name Letters, and then save the letter you just created into this new folder
Now go into outlook express, at the top menu choose tools, message rules, mail.
Select new at the right hand side menu.
Now for the tricky bit...
At the number 1. box called "select the conditions for your rules" tick the box "where the message body contains specific words".
Now go to number 3. box called "rule description" and click on the underlined text saying "contains specific words" now enter the exact description of you ebay item name, ideally you should go to ebay and highlight and copy ebook item name and paste it into the specific word box.
Then click add then click ok.
Next go to number 2. box called "select the actions for your rule" scroll down in this box to find "reply with message" and tick the box.
Now go to box 3. called "rule description" and click on the underlined text "message"this will bring up a box to browse your files and find the thankyou letter you typed a few moments ago.
Note: you may have to use the drop down menu under filename, to select file type as TXT, or DOC. now click on the letter you typed.
Now go to box number 4. called "name of the rule" and insert a name ie. recipe ebook rule, call it something similar to your ebook title, as you will probably set up lots of rules and it makes them easily identifiable.
Now click OK. It will now be added as a rule, just click "apply now" and thats your rule done.
If you have another email send a test email with the item title in the body of the email just to check its working and that should be you all set up and ready to do another and another and another!
One last thing, its a good idea to set up another email address only for receiving paypal payments, you can have more than one email address added in paypal just go to paypal and its search help, add another email address, why would you do this?
Well if someone emails you a query about an ebook you have for sale and they include the item title in the email, they will automatically get your auto response letter and the download link for free!
So you get another email address, set up the rules for this email, make sure you list this email address as the one payment is sent to in your ebay listings and then if anyone sends you a query it goes to your email address registered with ebay and not the email you use for paypal payments.
But this is not foolproof either, you see if anyone sends a payment to your paypal email address even if its only for 1p then they will still get the link!
If you really want a high class automated delivery of your emails, with top level security then try this option, it works for delivery ebooks to ebay and from your website, you do have to pay but if its security and reliability you want then its a must have:
Hope this helps.

My Google Adwords Adventure Day 1
Day 1.... 14.07.06
Well I'm all signed up to Google Adwords, literally 5 minutes ago.
You know, the ads that get viewed on most of your websites.
I have the ads on my own website and it got me thinking, wouldn't it be nice to have my ads placed on lots of different websites. So I took the plunge, signed up, set my monthly limit, choose some keywords and I'm on my very own google adwords adventure.
Its kind of scary when you buy advertising, is it going to work, will I get any clicks on my advert, will it cost me the earth, I hope not!
Who knows, well readers of this blog will know soon enough, I'm going to publish each and every step I go through, beginner to beginner! As you know I'm not an Internet Marketing whizz, I'm just an ordinary girl in an an ordinary world with an ordinary website, life is great :D
I will publish, to my blog, each and every single thing that happens to me on this new journey, its a learning curve and hopefully you can all learn from the mistakes I make (hopefully none but I wouldn't bet on that) so that you can avoid them.
Well step 1 tomorrow, off to the bank to send Google their Bank Transfer, and then 7-10 days later, when they receive the payment, my google adwords ad will be live !!!
to be continued...

How to price your ebook
You've written and compiled an ebook.
Now you have to decide how much to charge for it. Finding the right price is essential to the success of your product.
If you charge too little, people will think it's of little value, and they won't purchase it, or even if they do buy your book, you will have to sell thousands of copies to get to the point where you can begin to see a profit.
If you price it too high when compared with your competition, you will find yourself steadily lowering the price, which will cause you all kinds of new problems in the future.
For example, if you sell your ebook at first for £39.99, and later reduce it to£24.95, don't you think the people who bought it for£39.99 are going to be ever so slightly annoyed, do i hear the words refund refund refund???
Choosing the right price for your ebook is one of the most critical parts of the marketing process.
The first rule of pricing ebooks is to never underprice.
Determine the highest price your audience can afford, and then if you find your book isn't selling, you can always reduce the price.
Before you take that step, make sure you are promoting your book like crazy on the Internet and on websites. The price should be aimed at bringing in profits, but you should never forget that price is one of the factors that people use in judging the value of your ebook ? before they buy it.
So always start with the highest price, and then launch a mega-marketing campaign.
Pricing an ebook is particularly difficult because ebooks are a fairly new commodity. Since they are digital, the value of an ebook is as confusing as the understanding of what digital actually is to the average person.
This means that we must look at ebooks in a different light in order to determine their actual worth in this brave, new cyber world.
Let's look at the difference between a book in print and an ebook.
A printed book is an object you can hold in your hand, store on your bookshelf, even hand down to the next generation. It is priced on factors such as paper stock, design and production costs, and marketing.
But the fact that unites ebooks and print books is that they are composed of ideas. It is the ideas in these books that have the ability to change, or possibly transform, people's lives.
What do you think an idea is worth when evaluated against the cost of paper and ink?
It is the IDEAS that are valuable! That is how you determine the cost of your ebook.
What should I charge for my ideas?
There are all different formulas and methods for determining the correct price for your ebook.
Let's begin with honing in on your ultimate goals.
Decide if your goal is to get wide distribution and maximum exposure. This goal is aimed at drawing customers to your business or service, or to establishing the credibility of your reputation. If this is your main goal, you should aim to keep your price on the low side.
Some authors have even priced their ebooks at a profit loss to draw a high number of new customers. The key is to find a price that maximizes your profits and the number of books you sell.
This is an excellent pricing strategy if you are looking to acquire long-term customers. Long-term customers are extremely likely to buy from you again and again ? as long as the first ebook they buy is of exceptional quality and beneficial to the customer.
However, if your book contains valuable ? and more importantly NEW information, references, or techniques? then you should aim to price it on the high end.
After you figure out your goal, you must figure out what your audience's need is for your ebook. For example, does your book solve a particular problem? If it does, and solves it in a way that hasn't been written about in one hundred other ebooks, you will be able to achieve high sales at a high price.
If your book solves a problem or answers questions in a new and unique way, you should price your book as high as you can go. You will achieve larger profits this way, but bring in fewer customers.
Just make sure the question or problem that your book solves is one that is important and relevant to the majority of your market audience. If your ideas are not common knowledge, or you are presenting a brand new technique, you will be able to sell books at a high price.
Just be prepared for your competition to undercut you on price as soon as they hear about your book.
Keep in mind that the above pricing strategy is temporary. Eventually, you will cease to sell books at this high price. So figure out in advance how long you plan to offer your ebook at this high price, and when that time is up, change your pricing strategy.
If you want to see large profits over customer draw, aim for an audience that is looking for easy solutions to their problems at a low price. If your book is aimed at solving one particular problem rather than general advice, then you can charge more. Start at the highest price the market will bear to bring in the largest profits, and plan to discount the book a number of times throughout the year.
Marketing Strategies
The key that unlocks the sales potential of your ebook is to find a single sentence that becomes your selling handle. This sentence states what question or problem your book answers and the benefits your ebook can provide. Then be sure to use that sentence in every piece of sales and promotional material, and everytime anyone asks you about your ebook.
Besides promoting your books assiduously online, there are several other strategies that can help you sell more books.
One is to give something away for free with your book, such as a valuable bonus item. Or bundle several ebooks under one price, which lowers the price for each ebook if they were sold separately.
An effective technique for figuring out a price is to send out a survey to your current customers. If these customers have already bought an ebook from you, ask for their opinion in terms of price. Do this by creating a sales page for the new book, but don't include a price on that page. Instead, add a number of links to survey questions that ask pointed questions to aid you in assigning a price to your ebook.
Another strategy is to test out prices by creating a number of duplicate sales pages with different prices on each page. Make sure your sales copy is exactly the same on every page, and includes your selling-handle sentence. Then figure out for each page the conversion ratio between visitors to your site and sales of your ebook. This will tell you what your optimum price is.
Ultimately, if you've written a book that solves a problem or presents a new technique, your book will bring in both traffic and profits. So be sure to write that selling-handle sentence that sums up what problem your book solves and what the benefits of your book will be to the customers who purchase it. And then watch your market come to you!

Why write an ebook?
It's not true that everything that has been said has already been written.
Since that unfortunate axiom came into use, the whole universe has changed. Technology has changed, ideas have changed, and the mindsets of entire nations have changed.
The fact is that this is the perfect time to write an ebook. What the publishing industry needs are people who can tap into the world as it is today - innovative thinkers who can make the leap into the new millennium and figure out how to solve old problems in a new way.
Ebooks are a new and powerful tool for original thinkers with fresh ideas to disseminate information to the millions of people who are struggling to figure out how to do a plethora of different things.
Let's say you already have a brilliant idea, and the knowledge to back it up that will enable you to write an exceptional ebook. You may be sitting at your computer staring at a blank screen wondering, "Why? Why should I go through all the trouble of writing my ebook when it's so impossible to get anythingpublished these days?
Well, let me assure you that publishing an ebook is entirely different than publishing a book in print. Let's look at the specifics of how the print and cyber publishing industry differ, and the many reasons why you should take the plunge and get your fingers tapping across those keyboards!
Submitting a print book to conventional publishing houses or to agents is similar to wearing a hair shirt24/7. No matter how good your book actually is, or how many critique services and mentor writers have told you that "you've got what it takes," your submitted manuscript keeps coming back to you as if it is a boomerang instead of a valuable mine of information.
Perhaps, in desperation, you've checked outself-publishing and found out just how expensive aventure it can be. Most "vanity presses" require minimal print runs of at least 500 copies, and even that amount will cost you thousands of dollars. Some presses' minimal run starts at 1,000 to 2,000 copies. And that's just for the printing and binding. Add in distribution, shipping, and promotional costs and -well, you do the math. Even if you wanted to go this route, you may not have that kind of money to risk.
Let's say you already have an Internet business with a quality website and a quality product. An ebook is one of the most powerful ways to promote your businesswhile educating people with the knowledge you already possess as a business owner of a specific product or service.
For example, let's say that you've spent the last twenty-five years growing and training bonsai trees, and now you're ready to share your knowledge and experience. An ebook is the perfect way to reach the largest audience of bonsai enthusiasts.
Ebooks will not only promote your business - they will help you make a name for yourself and your company, and establish you as an expert in your field. You may even find that you have enough to say to warrant aseries of ebooks.
Specific businesses are complicated and often require the different aspects to be divided in order for the reader to get the full story.
Perhaps your goals are more finely tuned in terms of the ebook scene. You may want to build a whole business around writing and publishing ebooks.
Essentially, you want to start an e-business. You are thinking of setting up a website to promote and market your ebooks. Maybe you're even thinking of producingan ezine.
One of the most prevalent reasons people read ebooks is to find information about how to turn their Internet businesses into a profit-making machine. And these people are looking to the writers of ebooks to provide them with new ideas and strategies because writers of ebooks are usually people who understand the new cyberspace world we now live in.
Ebook writers are experts in Internet marketing campaigns and thestrategies of promoting and distributing ebooks. The cyberspace community needs its ebooks to be successful so that more and more ebooks will be written.
You may want to create affiliate programs that willalso market your ebook. Affiliates can be people or businesses worldwide that will all be working to sell your ebooks. Think about this? Do you see a formulafor success here?
Figure out what your subject matter is, and then narrow it down. Your goal is to aim for specificity. Research what's out there already, and try to find a void that your ebook might fill.
What about an ebook about a wedding cake business? Or an ebook about caring for elderly pets?
How about the fine points of collecting ancient pottery?
You don't have to have three masters degrees to write about your subject. People need advice that is easy to read and easily understood.
Parents need advice for dealing with their teenagers. College students need to learn good study skills - quickly. The possibilities are endless.
After you've writtten your ebook:
Getting your ebook out is going to be your focus once you've finished writing it, just as it is with printbooks. People will hesitate to buy any book from an author they've never heard of.
Wouldn't you?
The answer is simple: give it away!
You will see profits in the form of promoting your own business and getting your name out. You will find affiliates who will ask you to place their links within your ebook, and these affiliates will in turn go out and make your name known. Almost every single famous ebook author has started out this way.
Another powerful tool to attract people to your ebook is to make it interactive. Invent something for them to do within the book rather than just producing pages that contain static text. Let your readers fill out questionnaires, forms, even crossword puzzles geared to testing their knowledge on a particular subject.
Have your readers hit a link that will allow them to recommend your book to their friends and associates. Or include an actual order form so at the end of their reading journey, they can eagerly buy your product.
When people interact with books, they become a part ofthe world of that book. The fact is just as true for books in print as it is for ebooks.
That's why ebooks are so essential. Not only do they provide a forum for people to learn and make sense of their own thoughts, but they can also serve to promote your business at the same time.

How to avoid failure with your auctions
Many first time sellers have one thing in common – they fail.
Many of them fail time and time again, never understanding what is going wrong.
They do hours of research looking for the perfect item to sell, get the auction set up, and wait for the bidding to begin. Hours go by and no bids are placed. Days go by, and there are still no bids – or there are very low bids. Finally the auction ends, and it turns out to be a total failure.
Considering the huge number of sellers who run eBay auctions, there are specific things you must do, and specific things you must not do if you are to be successful.
There are many reasons why auctions fail. The most common reason is that the item is not in high demand. This problem can be avoided by doing the necessary research to determine which items sell well, and which items should be avoided. This research takes a great deal of time – but in the end, you will find that it is time well spent.
Another reason for eBay failure is pricing. No matter what your reserve price is, your opening bid price should never be more than £50 or so. This is how you will attract potential bidders to your auction. If you set that opening bid too high, most people won’t even click the link to read the description for your item. Another pricing problem is lack of research. Before you set your reserve price, you must determine what the item is really worth, and the price similar items have sold for in past eBay auctions.
Poorly written descriptions are another cause of failed auctions. Poor grammar and misspelled words drive people away. Failing to post a picture of the item will also keep people from visiting your auction page. Make sure that your description is well written. This is essentially your ‘sales copy.’
Shipping prices scare people away from auctions if they are too high. Find the lowest shipping prices that you can find, and consider paying for the shipping yourself if it won’t cut into your profits too much. Do not charge handling fees.
Offer great ‘customer service’ for all of your auctions, and ask your buyers to give you feedback. If the items that you sell are everything that you said they would be, and you offer great customer service, you can expect wonderful feedback – and this feedback will help a great deal in your future auctions.
The more you post listings on eBay the better they will become, practice really does make you perfect, well it will make your listings perfect anyway!
There are several ways to enhance your listings and make them more eye catching, for example you can use flash images, these are very eye catching, you are trying to entice the buyer into buying your item, you have to make a listing page that will sell.
Dont have three lines and thats it, its boring, you have to try and paint a picture of what they are buying. Describe your item in great detail, tell them how fabulous it is or how fabulous they will feel or look if they buy your item. Use words to convince them they need this item.
Just imagine this:
Your lying on a tropical beach, you feel totally relaxed and at ease, the sun beats down its warm rays onto body, you hear the sound of the ocean as it hits the rocks....
I gave you a setting to imagine, thats what you want to do with your auction description.
Make your item sell, anyone can write a few lines, most people do, make your auctions different, make the effort and watch them sell.

The importance of your eBay User Id
When most people sign up at eBay they choose a username similar to their own name, a funny name, or a name full of numbers ie. Sally_23432.
I done exactly the same thing, I wasnt aware at that time that I would be selling ebooks, but I have since changed my id name naturally.
Now this is ok for your ordinary every day ebayer, however this is not a good user id for someone who is intending on making money from eBay.
Your Id should reflect what you sell on eBay, ideally you should choose your website name as your ebay id name, my website is
http://www.sallys-ebooks.co.uk as you all know and my ebay name is
sallys-ebooks.
( Remember eBay is watching you so dont use all of your url ie. dont use an ebay name like
sallys-ebooks-co-uk eBay does not like this one little bit! )
Most people will then type Sallys-Ebooks into the search engine and see if I have a website too so this is a good idea of why you should choose a name similar to your site.
If you dont have a website thats absolutely fine, but still change your id name.
For example if you were buying an ebook from
Sally_23432
or
Sallys-Ebooks
Which do you think sounds better, more professional and more trusted, so you see what I mean.
Now obviously you all dont sell ebooks, but choose a related name, if you sell clothes try and use fashion in your id name, if you sell games for consoles use psp xbox nintendo in your id name, are you catching my drift?
Your eBay Id is one of the first things buyers will see so make it catchy, make it related and your onto a winning id !
Remember if you change your eBay user Id then you must check all links in your item listings, ie. your about me page, view my feedback, etc etc. Its better to change your ebay name as soon as possible so that you wont have 100s of listings that need to be amended.
When you change your id name you will have a small icon next to your new id name for 30 days or so, this is so people can see what your id name used to be before you changed it. No one can have your old id name until after 30 days but its a good idea to re-register it, just incase your have other links to it.
Your feedback ratings transfer over to your new id name so dont worry about losing all your precious feedback either !
Well what you waiting for? Go get your name changed now !!!

Build your mailing list Part 1
So why do you want to build up a massive mailing list of subscribers who are all hungry for what you are selling? Exactly!
The bigger the list the bigger you will profit, its as simple as that.
I primarily sell ebooks, so I want to build a list of people interested in buying ebooks from me.
In order to build a huge list your going to have to do a little bit of work but it will be worth it in the end I guarantee you that.
I currently have three mailing lists, one on my website, one on eBay and one on my Autoresponder, so yes I have a big list but I'm not bragging, I'm going to help you get your own massive list!
First thing to do is go over to my site and get the free, YES FREE, autoresponder account, your going to need it to send all those lovely profit making emails.
Here is the link for the free autoresponder
free autoresponder
Ok, all signed up.
Now you are going to need to get subscribers, if you have any other mailing lists contact them and tell them you have a new newsletter and that you will be adding them to it. Explain that they will only be receiving special offers from you and that you will not sell or giveaway their email address or any other personal information.
I strongly urge you to never sell or giveaway your subscribers information, this breaks the trust between you and your subscribers and I personally think only the lowest of the low would ever do this.
Now next you will go to the autoresponder and manually add a subscriber, you will enter whichever information you desire, I normally add email, firstname and surname.
There you have your first subscriber!
Now another option in this autoresponder is generating html for a sign up form. Basically it designs a box for people to complete to sign up to your autoresponder.
You simply copy all the code and insert it on a page, voila an instant sign up form.
Put it on your website under the link SIGN UP, make the link enticing, ie.
SIGN UP FOR FREE EBOOKS
SIGN UP FOR FREE TIPS
SIGN UP FOR SPECIAL OFFERS
Now everytime you sell something or email someone, you must put the sign up address under your name, so the bottom of your email will look something like this:
Sally Neill
Sign up for 30 free ebooks today
http://www.sallys-ebooks.co.uk/signup.html
That is actually a real link, and 30 free ebooks for anyone who would like them.
Now each and every email you send will include your own details for signing up to your autoresponder and many people will sign up using this method.
Pop ups are considered by many to be annoying, but its only when the pop up contains information that they don't like or are not interested in that they get annoyed.
You can use your generated sign up box as a pop up on your website, or on a page where people download your ebooks, make the form as interesting as possible, give away something for free, this is a great incentive to get more sign ups.
If you need a pop-up creator then get one for free, YES FREE AGAIN, from here just click the link:
free pop up fly in add creator
Well I hope this has helped you a little in understanding how to build your mailing list, in Part 2 you will discover how to use eBay as a huge way of exploding your mailing list.

Why you must have an Ebay Shop / Store
If starting an eBay business is your goal, as opposed to just auctioning a few items off for some extra cash, you need an eBay shop or store because eBay’s success depends on the success of its sellers, they strive to help you at every turn.
eBay Store Shops are one of the better solutions for eBay businesses. An eBay store will allow you to list multiple quantities of the same item, and allow you to keep them listed for longer time periods.
eBay Store owners also enjoy lower auction fees, and have access to advanced merchandising tools. Eventually, you should consider upgrading to an eBay Pro Store, which will allow you to customize your storefront with your own brand and web address.
Here are the best features of having an ebay store:
You can list items in your store for 30days or longer.
Your items will cost less to list.
You have access to Omniture Web Statistics, which shows which items are the most popular, which search engines are referring people to your eBay listings, which words are being searched for most in your store etc etc.
You get sales reports and traffic reports.
You can have featured item boxes to promote certain items in your shop.
You can add a sign up to my newsletter page on your shop frontpage, and therefore build your eBay mailing list.
You can send emails to all your eBay subscribers promoting items you have for sale in one easy step, free advertising !
The list really is endless, if your serious about selling on eBay then you need an eBay store shop today!
Remember to choose a relevant name for your ebay store, see my other post on the importance of your eBay Id.

Increase eBay Profits
While it is possible to earn a full time living on eBay, it is a mistake to depend solely on eBay for your income.
You could be using your eBay auctions to generate a huge amount of business for other products and services!
Many people, however, fail to fully utilize eBay’s resources to this end.
eBay has over 100 million members, and they gained those members by continually running major marketing campaigns. Essentially, they do your marketing for you. But you have to help yourself as well. The key is to drive people to your auction page, which in turn can be used to drive traffic to your website.
You can sell many different items on your website, including items that are up for auction at eBay! This is a fabulous way to earn income that does not rely on eBay auctions. You can easily accept website payments with a Paypal account, so there is no need for an expensive merchant account!
You are not allowed to include the website address of an outside website on your auctions – you are, however, perfectly welcome to place a link to your website on your eBay ‘About Me’ page.
So make sure you place links in all of your eBay listings that divert eBayers to your About me Page.
I have written an ebook on the Secret Marketing Strategeties of the eBay About me Page why not get a copy today just click the link:
Secret Selling Strategies of eBay About Me
Invite your bidders and potential bidders to view your about me page, and watch the website traffic roll in!
Remember, your not just informing people you have a website, your driving targeted traffic to your website so its a great idea to have a register or sign up page so that you can send them more offers by email or newsletter.

eBay Listing Rules
Because eBay is such a huge marketplace, with members from all walks of life, in almost every single country around the world, it is no wonder that there are many scammers lurking about. In order to better protect the buyers, eBay has specific rules concerning the items that can be auctioned off on the site. These rules must be followed, or the person posting the item for auction can be banned from the site.
Even though there are numerous categories, items that are put up for auction really only fall into one of four categories at eBay: Prohibited, Questionable, Potentially Infringing, and Approved.
Approved is the simplest category to define and understand. An approved item is any item that does not fall into one of the other three categories. That is fairly simple, right?
After the ‘approved’ category, however, it starts to get a little harder to understand – with the exception of prohibited items. A prohibited item may not be auctioned on eBay for any reason, under any circumstances.
Prohibited items include alcohol, drugs, animals, tobacco, human remains or body parts of any type, lottery tickets, and governmental property. There is quite a bit more on the list, and that list can be viewed at the eBay website.
Questionable items are those that are not prohibited, but are not necessarily infringing. Adult material falls under the ‘questionable’ category. Tickets of any type may also be questionable. Law enforcement related equipment, as well as guns, knives, and other weapons are questionable items. Artifacts, food items, batteries, all hazardous chemicals and materials are also on the list of questionable items. You can auction questionable items at eBay, as long as those items meet certain conditions.
Potentially Infringing items are those that violate copyrights, trademarks, and other legal rights. These items are almost always some type of media, such as software, DVDs, and CDs, but the list contains other items as well, such as counterfeit items and illegal recordings.
You can find out more about ‘potentially infringing’ items at the eBay website as well.
If you are unsure as to which category your item falls into, you should contact eBay with this question before setting up the auction. As a buyer, you should carefully consider the consequences of purchasing items that fall under one of the three categories above.
In some cases, it may be very illegal to have some of those items in your possession – no matter how they were obtained. Before making such a purchase, or bidding on such an item, you should find out more details about the item in question, and then get some legal advice.
If you ever have any doubt about any item, contact eBay and ask first or you could end up being suspended from eBay and you will definately have your listing removed.

Advanced Search Function on eBay
Why would you want to use the advanced search function on eBay?
Well I can give you 3 reasons why right now!
1. To find out how much any item is currently selling for on eBay
2. To find out the best words to use in your item description
3. To find out how well another seller or competitor is doing
Where is the advanced search function?
When you are on eBays Auction Website at the very top right hand side you will see the words Advanced Search underlined.
Click it, now there are many many options here and most are self explanatory so I will only talk about the ones important to this post.
Now back to the three reasons I gave above.
1. How much?
To find out how much your item is currently selling for on ebay follow these simple steps:
Click advanced search
Insert the Name of your item ie. Nokia 6280, try to be vague with the words to sell all previous items sold.
Now just below this to the right, tick the box Completed Listings Only.
You can just leave the other options blank, now click Search.
Now you have a list of all the items that have recently ended on eBay that match the keywords you suggested.
You will see on the list that some amounts are RED and some amounts are GREEN.
The RED amounts are items that DID NOT SELL.
The GREEN amounts are items that DID SELL.
Now you have a list of the recent items, the same as yours, that sold and how much for!
2. Best Words to use in your description?
Basically you will follow all the above steps, once you have your list generated you want to click on PRICE twice so that the list is re-ordered into the highest prices first.
Now you have a list of the highest prices for your item and you can check their item titles and
descriptions and use the same words that they have. They made a great sale using their titles and descriptions and now you can too!
3. How good is a competitor doing?
Wouldn't you just love to know how any seller / competitor is doing with their sales on eBay?
Well now you will.
Basically you want to go to the Advanced Search Page again by clicking the link at the top right hand side of any ebay page.
Now this time you will see at the left hand side ITEMS BY SELLER, click this.
Now enter the Sellers ID in the box provided.
Select Include Completed Listings by using the tick box provided.
Now a list will come up with user names that match the seller id you just input.
Find the seller you want and at the far right select VIEW SELLERS ITEMS.
You will now see a list of all their recently ended items and can see if their items sold and how much it sold for etc etc.
Like I said previously there are many features on the advanced search on eBay, its always good to try each of the options and see what other information you can discover.

Pricing your Items on eBay
Many new sellers don’t realise how important pricing is when it comes to eBay auctions.
If you outprice your items, they just wont sell and thats the bottom line.
Many eBayers don’t even realise that you need to put a price in an auction site!
But eBay auctions are not quite the same as the auctions you attend in the offline world. In fact, quite a bit of work goes into determining and setting prices.
Essentially, there are only three prices that can be set for an eBay auction: the ‘buy it now’ price, the reserve price, and the starting bid price.
Of these three, the 'starting bid' price is the only one that is required for an eBay auction. The reserve price and the ‘buy it now’ price are optional. The starting bid price is fairly simple – never set it higher than $50 or so – no matter what your item is really worth. This low opening price will get bidders to your auction.
Setting low starting bid prices creates the need for a reserve price. A 'reserve price' is the absolute lowest price that you want to get for your item. You may sell the item below the reserve price, but you will not be required to. In other words, if you set your reserve price at £100, and your highest bid is only £50, you do not have to sell the item to the highest bidder. You can close the auction without any negative feedback or repercussions. Set your reserve price at the absolute lowest price you are willing to sell your item for. Keep what the item is worth, as well as what it cost you in mind.
The ‘buy it now’ option will allow you to set a price, and buyers can buy the item immediately, without bidding, for that set price. This option can be used for any type of item, and it should be set to match your reserve, give or take a few pounds. This option is great if you have multiple identical items to sell.
Shipping has a price, and potential buyers take this into consideration when they are looking at an auction. If you can see your way clear to offer free shipping, you will find that people are placing more bids. Make sure that your potential buyers realise that you are offering free shipping!
Before setting any prices, you need to determine what the item is really worth. The value of the item in different markets might be quite high.
However, you are selling on eBay, and it is a different world altogether!
Find out the price that similar items sold for on eBay, use the advanced search eBay provides (see my other post on Advanced Searches) before setting any prices.
The most popular listings are the ones that start at 1p but only do this is you are sure your item is a hot item and will attract many bidders or you may sell your item for only 1p and then
you have made a massive mistake.

Treble Your Ebay Ebook Sales
If you are listing resell rights ebooks on eBay then there is a very clever way to make more sales from only one listing and most people dont even use this eBay function !!!
First you have to list the item as an online auction, do not do a buy it now or list the item in your eBay shop.
Start the bidding on your new item at 1p, yes only 1p.
Now sit back and wait for the bids to come in.
When your item ends you may have had several bids, I once had 18 bids on an ebook.
So now what?
After your item ends click on the sold item to view the description page.
You will see it says something like
"your item has sold for xxx amount, payment has been sent to......"
Scroll down the item description and you will see
"Additional Options"
Now from these options I want you to choose
"Second Chance Offer"
You will now be taken to the Second Chance offer page, the item number should have automatically been filled in for you but if not then add the item number and click continue.
Now you will see 3 options:
Duration
Select User Ids
Second Chance Offer price
Duration: is the length of time that you want to give for the second chance offer you are sending, between 1 and 7 days, personally I use the full 7 days as many eBayers dont go on eBay every single day but its your choice.
Select User Ids: this is the eBayers Ids who were not successful in winning the ebook.
Second Chance Offer Price: is the highest price they bid for on the ebook.
Now simply use the selection box beside the User Id to select who you would like to send a second chance offer to, ie choose the User Ids whos bids are acceptable to you.
They will each get a separate offer to buy at the previously unsuccessful bid amount.
ie. Susan bid 99p so she gets an offer at 99p Shaun bid £1.49 so he gets an offer at £1.49.
Then click continue.
You will now have the chance to add a personal message, you can leave it this part blank or you can add a message to say that you have more than one of these items if they still want to buy it.
Click send and your second chance offers will be sent to everyone you selected.
All the second chance offers have been sent by eBay, now you just sit back and wait, more times than not the buyer accepts the second chance offer and you have made another sale!
Like I said I once had 18 bids on an ebook, it sold for £2.97, I sent second chance offers to 15 of the unsuccessful bidders, who had made bids ranging from 1p upto £2.96. I only sent second chance offers to 15 because the other two bids were too low, only 1p and 5p.
So I sent second chance offers to 15 people, they all accepted and I made an additional £16.10 from the second chance offers minus the final value fees!
You dont have to pay to use second chance offers, you dont get charged an additional listing fee either the only additional charge will be the final value fee which is a percentage of the price the second chance offer sells for.
So go forth and make many many second chance offers!

Scammed on Ebay
eBay is a relatively safe marketplace.
But unfortunately, like most online marketplaces, it is vulnerable to scams.
eBay tries to keep instances of scams occurring, but with more than 100 million members, and approximately $40 million moving through the site on a daily basis, this can be a little difficult.
Sometimes, scams occur.
If you have been scammed, there are certain stepsyou need to follow to report the incident, and to try to come to a resolution.
If you paid for the item through Paypal, the first step is to login to your Paypal account and open up a dispute for the payment. If you did not pay through Paypal, contactyour credit card company. In most cases, if you have used one of these two cases, you will recover your money.
The next step is to use eBay’s dispute process to report the seller.
This is specifically for items that were not received, or items that were significantly different than what was described in the auction. eBay also has a purchase protection program to further protect buyers.
If a settlement cannot be reached with the buyer, the next step is to make an eBay buyer purchase protection claim.

Dropshipping on Ebay
If you hope to own an eBay business, and make a full time living at it, you can easily make that dream come true – even if you don’t have a product of your own to sell.
eBay provides many people who want to quit their corporate nine-to-five jobs with a way to make a good living, without having to put up a lot of start up capital. This is made possible with the help of drop shippers.
Drop shippers send merchandise to the customers of business owners. If you have an eBay business, you are a business owner. This will allow you to offer a wide variety of stock in your eBay store, without having the need to warehouseall of those products!
All you have to do is set up your auction, and sell the product. You then pass the customer’s information on to the drop shipping company. The drop shipper does the rest, and they will even use your company information, as well as your company logo if you have provided it to them.
When the product arrives at your customer’s home, they will have no idea that your company didn’t send it. The drop shipper will package, label, and ship the products that you sell, allowing you more time to set up even more auctions, for greater profits.
You must establish a relationship with several drop shipping companies in order to become successful. In the beginning, most companies will require you to pay for the items that your customers order before they are shipped.
You need to fill orders in a timely manner, so you should pay for the items with a credit card for speedy service. Eventually, you will be able to have the drop shipper fill your orders, and then bill you for them later.
When you set up your eBay auctions, make sure that your reserve price is set higher than the price that the drop shipper will be charging you for the item. The idea, of course, is to earn a profit!
Depending on the item you are selling, a markup of about 10% should be about right, but you should do some research to see if the item is selling for a lower price in another eBay auction, or through other online sources.
By starting an eBay business using the drop shipping method, there is essentially no financial riskinvolved. The product will be sold before you pay the drop shipper for the item. This is one of the few businesses where you can actually turn a profit before you have expenditures!

Ebay and Customer Service
If you are running an eBay business, you may not realize that
the need for great customer service still exists – even for online auctions.
When a buyer receives quality customer service from you, they will potentially do one
of two things – or both. They will give you great feedback, and they may look for more
of your auctions in the future.
If you hope to make a living from eBay, you have to stop thinking of it as an ‘auction’ and start running it like a ‘business.’
If you owned a brick and mortar business, how would you treat your customer while they were standing at your counter, waiting for you to finish ringing up their order? You would be helpful and respectful of course! You would do everything that you could to guarantee that customers return to your establishment in the future. You would bend over backwards to make sure that their buying experience with you was both satisfactory and enjoyable. Why would you do any less at the close of one of your eBay auctions?
First, act quickly at the close of your auctions. Contact the winner, and congratulate them.
Describe the item they have won and how the item will be shipped – even if this information is already part of the description for the auction.
Remind them of their winning bid amount, and give them payment options and instructions. Let them know when the item will be shipped.
Close your email by thanking them for participating in your auction. You might even take this opportunity to tell them about other open auctions that you have as well. Think of this contact with the winner as a conversation that you are having with a customer who is standing at your counter in that imaginary brick and mortar store.
Once the payment and shipping details have been taken care of, contact your buyer again. Let them know when the item was shipped – the exact date and time – and when it is expected to arrive on their end. During this contact, let them know that if they have any problems or questions, that they should contact you through the eBay site.
If they do contact you in the future, make sure that you answer promptly, and that you do all that you can to make them happy with their purchase – even if it means issuing a refund.
Yes, you should be open to issuing refunds, depending on what the item is. Furthermore, you should issue refunds promptly. Of course, it is reasonable to expect the buyer to return the item to you, at your expense, before the refund is issued – but once you receive the item, issue the refund promptly. This is just good business!
